We are the University of Rhode Island College Democrats. Politics has become an integral aspect of American life and the ultimate foundation it rests upon is devotion. Within our government it is up to us to decide who we are, what we stand for, and what we aspire to be.
The Democratic Party is always committed to those goals and will stand by any individual who strives for success, “we pledge our best efforts to help them help themselves.”
Meetings times are 7pm in Memorial Union Room 301 on Thursdays.

so please come and bring your friends!
10/12: The debate will take place on Thursday October 29th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, though a location has yet to be determined. A number of possible topics have been discussed, including the environment, gay rights, health care, the stimulus package, the war in Afghanistan, and increasing national security through green jobs.
We are still in need of debaters! If you are comfortable speaking in front of people and believe that you can prepare quickly, please come to this week's meeting and let us know.
This week's meeting will take place at 6:00pm on Tuesday in room 202 of the Memorial Union. This week's meeting will include a special announcement from group President Amanda Clarke. The future of the group will be discussed at length. We highly encourage those of you that can make it to come.
10/6: State Representative Ed Pacheco is partnering with Rhode Island Young Democrats to support legislation for youth voter pre-registration. Such legislation has passed recently only to be vetoed by Governor Carcieri. The "Make It Happen" campaign seeks to gain enough support in the legislature to override this veto. Those interested in the campaign can go to www.riyd.org.
- Our fall debate with the College Republicans is rapidly approaching. Final details are still being ironed out. If you wish to participate or to help our team prepare, let us know this Tuesday. We have also been discussing possible debate topics.
9/22: At our most recent meeting we took some time to get to know each other
a little better, as well as to welcome new members into the group. We
then spent the remainder of the meeting brainstorming ideas for the
remainder of the semester. We also discussed the following:
A debate
with the College Republicans and Possibly the Young Americans for
Liberty, tentatively scheduled for the end of October.
A pasta
dinner, possibly with the College Republicans. It has been suggested
that we donate the proceeds to a charity. Let us know if you have a
worthy cause in mind.
Cosponsoring an event with another
student organization. Members have suggested NAACP, GLBT, and SAS.
Other ideas would be much appreciated.
Competing in the banner competition for Homecoming.
A Bowling Night. Let us know a date and time that's good for you.
9/16: Had a successful day at the Organization Fair in front of the Union. We had a lot of interested people in the group and look forward to their participation in the future.
